CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX: Undereye Bags + Puffiness? Lymphatic Drainage Might Be Your First Step
Undereye bags & puffiness are some of the most common concerns we hear about at the med spa. Clients want to look more awake, less tired, + refreshed—but not everyone is a candidate for under-eye filler, & in our practice, we actually don’t offer it at all.
Here’s why, & what we recommend instead—starting with one of the most overlooked (and safest) tools: lymphatic drainage.
Why We Don’t Offer Under-Eye Filler
While filler under the eyes can work for some people, it comes with more risk than other areas of the face. The skin under the eyes is extremely thin, & improper placement can lead to puffiness, shadowing, or a visible Tyndall effect (a bluish tint under the skin).
Even with perfect technique, the results can be unpredictable—especially over time. That’s why we choose not to offer under-eye filler at our practice. Instead, we focus on safe, effective, & natural alternatives.
What Causes Undereye Puffiness?
Not all under-eye bags are created equal. Some are caused by volume loss or skin laxity with age, but many are simply the result of fluid retention or poor lymphatic drainage in the face.
This can be triggered by:
Allergies or sinus congestion
Sleep position
Dehydration or salty foods
Hormonal changes
Inflammation
Genetics
If fluid buildup is contributing to your puffiness, we want to work with your body’s natural drainage system—not against it.
How Lymphatic Drainage Can Help
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, hands-on technique that helps move stagnant fluid out of the face—especially from areas like the under-eyes where puffiness tends to collect.
Incorporating regular lymphatic drainage (whether through a facial, a home routine, or even light gua sha) can:
Reduce under-eye swelling
Brighten the eye area
Improve skin tone and circulation
Enhance the results of other treatments
We often recommend starting here, especially if your puffiness fluctuates day to day.
What About Tox for the Undereyes?
We do offer a treatment called Jelly Roll Tox, which targets the tiny muscle rolls that appear under the eyes when you smile. When placed carefully, it can help smooth & relax the area—but not everyone is a candidate.
The best way to know if it’s right for you is to come in for an in-person consult. We’ll assess your anatomy, muscle movement, & goals to give you honest guidance on what will work best for your under-eyes.
Final Thoughts
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to under-eye bags. In many cases, the most effective (and safest) place to start is by supporting your lymphatic system.
Whether you’re a candidate for Jelly Roll Tox or just want to improve circulation & reduce puffiness naturally, we’re here to help you navigate your options—with a focus on subtle, healthy, & long-lasting results.
Still not sure what to do? Book a consult with our team. We’ll take a close look in person & guide you through the best plan for brighter, more rested eyes—no guesswork needed.
