What It Is

The technique most people dismiss — until they see it.

Scalp micropigmentation is the application of specialized pigment to the scalp at precise depths, replicating the appearance of individual hair follicles. The result is a natural density illusion — a sharper hairline, a filled crown, defined edges.

It is not a tattoo. The pigment, depth, and technique are fundamentally different. It does not look like ink. It looks like hair.

No surgery. No systemic medication. No recovery downtime. Two to three sessions, spaced three weeks apart. The result is permanent.

01

Who It's For

Anyone at any stage of hair loss — early thinning to complete baldness. Also used to restore hairlines following transplant work, or to address scalp scarring.

02

How It Works

Pigment is deposited using a fine needle into the upper dermis. Each impression mimics a shaved follicle. Layered across sessions, the result builds natural density.

03

What It Isn't

It is not a hair regrowth treatment and does not stop hair loss. It creates the permanent appearance of density where the underlying biology cannot.

04

The Timing Advantage

Earlier candidates have more options. As density decreases, the approach changes. The best outcomes come from acting while the choice is still yours to make.

The Process

What you can expect, start to finish.

Step 01 — Consultation

The conversation that precedes everything.

Not a pitch. An honest assessment of your candidacy, your goals, and what SMP can realistically produce for your specific scalp. You will leave with information whether you decide to proceed or not. The hairline gets mapped here — nothing is placed until you have approved it.

Step 02 — Session One

Foundation. Not the final result.

The first session establishes the base layer of pigment and the hairline structure. Results are visible immediately, but expect some initial intensity — the pigment softens and settles over the following days. Most clients return to normal activity the same day.

Step 03 — Healing Window

Three weeks between sessions.

The scalp heals, the pigment settles, and the full picture of session one becomes clear. Some fading is normal and expected — factored into the layering process. This is the window to assess and refine before session two.

Step 04 — Sessions Two & Three

Density is built in layers.

Sessions two and three refine density, adjust tones for natural variation, and solidify the final result. The difference between a session-one result and a session-three result is significant — each layer adds realism and depth.

Step 05 — Final Result

Permanent. Minimal maintenance.

Once treatment is complete, results are permanent. Some clients return for a minor touch-up after 3–5 years as skin naturally ages. No ongoing products, no medications, no maintenance regimen. The result lives on its own.

Why It Matters

Most practitioners performing SMP today came from tattooing or aesthetics. They learned pigment first. They understand technique. What many of them have never done is spend years looking at hair — studying how it grows, where it recedes, what makes a hairline look right at every age and every angle.

"I didn't come to this from aesthetics or tattooing. I came from over 12 years in hair. That changes what the result looks like — because I know what natural looks like before the first session starts."

That means understanding hairline shape relative to facial structure. Recognizing loss patterns and how they progress. Knowing the difference between a hairline that looks placed and one that looks grown.

The clients who sit in this chair worried about their hairline are not meeting an esthetician who learned SMP. They are meeting someone who has been working with hair — their kind of concern, their kind of question — for the better part of two decades.

Physician-Led Protocol

Before. During. After.

Every step is structured, supervised, and communicated clearly before you commit to anything.

Pre-Care

Preparation

  • Consultation with your practitioner to assess candidacy and scalp health
  • Review of medications that may affect healing or pigment retention
  • Scalp assessment — skin type, loss stage, hairline mapping
  • Avoid blood thinners, alcohol, and sun exposure 48 hours prior
  • Scalp should be clean and product-free on session day
  • Hydration supports optimal skin condition

During Care

The Session

  • Topical numbing applied prior — comfort managed throughout
  • Sessions run 2–3 hours depending on treatment area
  • Hairline mapped and approved before any pigment is placed
  • Density built gradually across sessions
  • Physician oversight maintained throughout the protocol
  • Nothing moves without your review and agreement

Post-Care

Aftercare & Healing

  • Keep scalp dry for 4 days following each session
  • Avoid direct sun — SPF once fully healed
  • No swimming, saunas, or heavy sweating for one week
  • Some fading between sessions is normal and expected
  • Day 7 check-in included; follow-up throughout
  • Touch-up policy reviewed at your consultation
